We understand that not everyone comes from a church or United Methodist background, and you may have questions about our worship, traditions, or what to expect. We’re here to help guide you and make your experience comfortable and meaningful.
Structure of the Service
Our worship service follows the United Methodist Book of Worship and is shaped around the Service of Word and Table. This means our time together includes Scripture readings, prayer, music, a sermon, and the celebration of Holy Communion on first Sundays and Holy Days.
Worship at First United Methodist Church, Conway, is reverent and welcoming. You’ll find a mix of familiar liturgy and thoughtful preaching, with opportunities to participate as you feel comfortable. Communion is open to all who seek to respond to God’s grace, and no prior experience is required.
Whether this is your first time in church or you’ve been worshiping for years, we hope you’ll find worship here meaningful, accessible, and rooted in God’s love.
What if I don’t know what to do during a service?
Each service includes a printed bulletin that guides you through the order of worship with clear instructions for participation. There are parts of the service where the congregation is invited to stand as able, along with spoken responses and shared prayers. Most services also include hymns, with hymn numbers listed in the bulletin and hymnals provided in the pews.
You are welcome to participate in whatever ways feel most comfortable—whether that means standing, sitting, singing, speaking, or simply listening.
What Do I Wear?
Please wear whatever makes you comfortable. At First United Methodist Church, Conway, you’ll see a wide range of attire—from casual to more traditional. Some people come in jeans, while others prefer a jacket or dress.
What matters most to us is that you feel at ease and able to worship fully. Come as you are—you are welcome here.
Where Do I Go on Sunday Mornings?
First United Methodist Church, Conway, is made up of three main buildings. The Sanctuary, located at the corner of 5th Avenue and Laurel Street, is where we gather for worship. The Education Building, which connects the Sanctuary and the Fellowship Hall, is used for Sunday School and our nursery.
All buildings are accessible, with ramps or step-free entry available. Accessible restrooms and drinking water are located in each building. Ushers and volunteers are always available to help you find an accessible entrance or answer any questions.
If you’re visiting with children for the first time, our volunteers will be happy to help you locate the nursery, children’s spaces, or worship seating that feels most comfortable for your family. We want your visit to be as easy and welcoming as possible.
Do I need to bring anything with me to service?
All you ultimately need is a desire to meet God. If you want to bring a bible, you are welcome to, however, everything you need for the service will be provided for you.
