Adult Sunday School

At First UMC Conway, we offer many opportunities to grow in faith at every stage of life. Sunday School classes for children, youth, and adults provide welcoming, age-appropriate spaces where participants build relationships, explore Scripture, ask meaningful questions, and learn how to live out God’s love in everyday life.
Bible Hut Class
Meeting Time: 9:30am Sundays
Location: The Hut Chapel | Corner of Main St. & Fifth Ave., Conway, SC 29526
The Hut Bible Class, founded in 1919, began when men returning from World War I sought a place for study and discipleship. Today, the class continues that tradition, meeting weekly for Sunday School in the historic Hut Chapel, which once served as an early sanctuary of First UMC. Primarily a men’s class but welcoming to all, the Hut Bible Class follows a weekly curriculum led by rotating teachers in a lecture-style format.
The Emma Thompson Class
Meeting Time: 9:30am Sundays
Location: Education Bldg. Room 216 | 1001 Fifth Ave., Conway, SC 29526
The Emma Thompson Class, founded in 1917, began as the Service Class and was later renamed in honor of Mrs. Emma Thompson for her generous bequest supporting missional work. Composed of older men and women—single and married—the class meets in the Education Building, Room 216. With lively discussion, the class follows short-term studies or the weekly Adult Bible Series and keeps mission at its heart, supporting ministries for children, youth, and adults within the church and the wider community.
The John McCutcheon Class
Meeting Time: 9:30am Sundays
Location: Education Bldg. Room 124 | 1001 Fifth Ave., Conway, SC 29526
The John McCutcheon Class, founded in 1948, began as a class for young adults and has evolved over the years into a group composed primarily of retired adults. Led by rotating teachers, the class follows the weekly Adult Bible Series, focusing on Scripture and its application to everyday life. With an emphasis on conversation and dialogue, the class meets in the Education Building, Room 124.
The Women of the Well
Meeting Time: 9:30am Sundays
Location: Education Bldg. Room 221 | 1001 Fifth Ave., Conway, SC 29526
Women of the Well is a group of women—single, married, widowed, and divorced—who gather for meaningful conversation, laughter, and community. Through short-term Bible studies and book discussions, the class encourages thoughtful reflection in a compassionate, caring environment where relationships and faith grow together.
The Journey Seekers
Meeting Time: 9:30am Sundays
Location: Education Bldg. Room 223 | 1001 Fifth Ave., Conway, SC 29526
The Journey Seekers class is made up primarily of adults in their 30s–50s, many with children and youth. Led by a rotating team of teachers, the class focuses on lively discussions around faith, discipleship, and what it means to live out that faith in everyday life. Everyone is welcome.
The Faith Builders
Meeting Time: 9:30am Sundays
Location: Education Bldg. Room 218 | 1001 Fifth Ave., Conway, SC 29526
The Faith Builders is made up primarily of adults in their 30s–50s, many with children and youth. Led by a rotating team of teachers, the class follows either the Sunday morning lectionary—connecting Scripture, worship, and discipleship—or short-term studies focused on applying faith to everyday life. All are welcome.
Seasonal Studies

Throughout the year—especially during the seasons of Advent and Lent—our clergy offer short-term Sunday morning studies open to all. These studies welcome participants from existing Sunday School classes as well as those who are not currently connected to a class.
Each spring, we also offer a United Methodist Discipleship Class for new members, visitors, and long-time members who would like a refresher on what it means to be United Methodist. These classes are typically held in the Education Building and provide an engaging opportunity to grow in faith, understanding, and connection within the life of the church.
